Argentina Great Britain Mexico Slovenia
Australia Ireland New Zealand Spain
Belgium Iceland Netherlands South Korea
Brazil Italy Austria Czech Republic
Brunei Japan Poland Ukraine
Bulgaria Canada Portugal Hungary
Chile Qatar Romania V.A.E
Denmark Latvia Russia United States
Germany Liechtenstein Sweden Cyprus
Estonia Lithuania Switzerland
Finland Luxembourg Singapore
France Malta Slovakia

Where can you get a 144-hour transit visa

Transit visas with a validity of 144 hours are currently only issued for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and the Yangtze-Delta region, to which Shanghai and the provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang belong. In most other international airports the maximum duration remains 72 hours.

In order to receive a transit visa, you need an evidence for an onward flight to a third country. For instance, it is now allowed to fly from Frankfurt to Beijing and then back to Frankfurt. On the other hand, it does not matter, if you arrive at the Tianjin Port Authority and depart from the airport or the other way around.

Remarks by our ECOVIS Beijing legal consultants

The decision about the transit stay is made on your arrival by the respective entry port authority. But remember, even for this short stay you have to register at the next police station within 24 hours. If you stay in a hotel, the front desk will do the registration. Staying in regions not covered by the scheme is not possible and will be punished.
