On 27 December 2016, the Chinese government published the draft of its first E-Commerce Law. The law will cover all major aspects of e-commerce, including delivery and payment methods. The law also intends to strengthen IP rights and to more effectively punish infringements and retailers of fake products.

On 22 March 2017, the Beijing Intellectual Property Court (BICP) granted an injunction in a standard-essential patent (SEP) infringement case brought against the Chinese branch of Sony Mobile. A SEP is a patent, which is essential to a standard issued by a standard body.

On March 10 2017, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce announced that China will digitize the registration and licensing process of new companies. This new procedure will help new enterprises start their business more quickly. Additionally, deregistration will be simplified, too. If everything goes according to plan, the process and platform will be set up by the end of this year.

On 9 September 2016, the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs unveiled the reform of the current work permit system for foreigners living in China. The changes will merge the various regulations for foreign specialists with the application procedures of ordinary foreigners. The reform will replace the current work permit booklet with an ID card similar to the one Chinese already have, and implement a grading system, which will rank foreign workers according to their experience and skills.
