Point System

Work Visas are an important issue for all expats living and working in China. Since April 2017, China uses a point system to evaluate foreigners and decide whether they are eligible or not for a work permit, which is the precondition for a work visa and a legal occupation in the People's Republic. In order to help foreigner check their prospective score, we have created a calculator based on the regulations of the Chinese Labor Bureau. 

 

Participants in certain research projects, as well as award winners of renown scientific or artistic prizes, will automatically obtain a Grade A classification. The list of the projects and awards can be downloaded here

Note: China encourages investment in certain regions to spur local development. These areas include the so-called China Western Development Strategy covering Gansu, Guizhou, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Sichuan and Yunnan, Guangxi, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Tibet, Xinjiang, and Chongqing, and the Northeastern region (including Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang. Additionally, China has earmarked certain poor or otherwise strategically significant areas for special development (e.g. Xiong’an). The most recent Chinese list of poor counties was published in March 2017.
